Southern California ASA
Southern California ASA umpires are strongly encouraged to attend an annual Rules Clinic and a annual Mechanics Clinic. These clinics provide all umpires with the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience, and the seasoned umpires to sharpen their skills, rid themselves of bad habits, and to assist the SoCal ASA UIC Staff with training. Those umpires attending the clinics with the intend of certifying for Championship play assignments must attend one Rules Clinic, one Mechanics Clinic and complete the testing requirements. Both fast pitch and slow pitch certification may be attained at the same clinics. The 2005 ASA Umpire Rules Exam will again be administered "Open Book" and will be available at each clinic, except the January 23 (Sunday) LA/South Bay District Mechanics Clinic. In 2005 and 2006 SoCal ASA is privileged to host the ASA Fast Pitch Camp (Advanced Umpire School). This camp is for fast pitch umpires that are interested in developing their skills and mechanics to the ultimate. Included in the four-day schedule are daily plate drills and base mechanics, lectures on rules and positioning as well as in-depth reasoning behind umpire mechanics, the ability for group discussions with leaders of the ASA umpire program and assigned games which are video taped for evaluation. This camp also serves as an ISF "certified" rating seminar. Umpires applying for the ISF certification portion of the camp must meet the requirements for ISF certification. 2005 Rules Clinics
